Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn session during your 2nd-3rd trimester. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month so to guarantee a spot I do recommend reaching out sooner than later. However, once in awhile I do have last minute sessions available so never hesitate to reach out.

How do you book a newborn session if you don’t know exactly when the baby will arrive?

Once your 30% deposit is paid and contract is signed I will pencil your due date in my calendar. When baby arrives call/text/email me to schedule your session. Sessions should take place within 14 days of baby’s birth. Sessions are most successful during this time because babies are still very sleepy and curl into poses much easier. If you missed the 14 day window we can still capture beautiful portraits of your baby we will just have to focus more on the wrapped-style of poses.

How should I prepare for my newborn’s portrait session?

Feed and change baby’s diaper before the session. Also, have a pacifier on hand if your baby takes one. Pacifiers help tremendously when transitioning baby into certain poses and soothing baby in between feedings. Don’t worry about buying any props or outfits. I have everything we need to create beautiful photos (props/wraps/headbands/hats/etc).

Why do newborn sessions take so long?

Newborn sessions can take up to 2-hours because I allow plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles. For certain poses the baby will need to be in a deep sleep which also can take some time/patience till baby drifts off. My sessions are always baby-led, meaning I follow the baby’s cues. If they need to eat we stop so they can eat, if they seem even the slightest bit uncomfortable with a certain pose I will adjust to that and pose them in a different way.

Are family photos included in the newborn packages?

Yes! Family/sibling photos are included in ALL of my packages. I love to include siblings and parents in the newborn sessions! If young siblings are involved I typically will start the session with sibling/family photos.

Do you provide props?

Yes! All of the props/wraps/headbands/hats/etc. you see on my website I will have available for your use during the session However, if you have something special you want to incorporate in the session please let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it.

What experience do you have?

I have been working as a professional photographer for 12-years and photographing newborns professionally for over 9-years. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from IUP in 2011, where I also studied photography. I have done extensive training on posing and working with newborns. Safety of your baby is my #1 priority at all times during my newborn sessions. I regularly attend workshops and take online classes to continue learning and growing as a photographer.

What should we wear?

For family photos, I typically suggest neutrals such as beige, cream, white. Colors can also work well but the key is not wearing anything that will draw attention away from the baby. Avoid busy patterns and bulky layers. Check out my blog post HERE for more tips!

How and when will I receive my gallery?

You will receive your online viewing gallery 2-3 weeks after your session. Make sure to follow my Facebook and Instagram and keep an eye out for a sneak peek from your session!
